[ There are a lot of beings out there that Minjun has been tasked with keeping an eye on. From sirens singing in busy ports to gnomes just trying not to be turned into lawn ornaments, he has a lot on his plate. But sometimes he takes on a project that's just for him, keeps a person a secret from those who control him. Minjun still keeps tabs on them himself but he does so in his free time--or what little of it he has, anyway.
He forgets where he first ran into Rook, but he's kept an eye on him ever since. There's a charm to the demon that goes beyond what he's so naturally able to do; part of it is just how unlike any other demon Minjun has had the misfortune to deal with he is. A strangely... sweet secret? It's odd.
There are bags in his hands when he shows up at Rook's place, filled with a bunch of ingredients he picked up on his way over. His hand lifts to knock when he pauses and promptly searches out the spare key to just unlock the door himself. Easier. Plus, he had sent a message already that he was coming over, so at least it's not a surprise.
Minjun toes his shoes off once he's inside and locks the door back up behind him. ]
[ Comfort. That was what Rook sought out more often than not, when he wasn't being tugged here and there over the Earth by mortals that knew how to summon him, or curled at the feet of Belial in Hell. Warm and simple comfort. You could see it in the way he decorated his apartment, in the simple colours of blue and grey of the walls, in the piles of soft pillows and blankets heaped on every surface, in the abundance of well worn books that dotted every surface. In how there wasn't a single pair of matching plates or mugs in his kitchen (not that he had many plates to begin with, he rarely had more than two people over at any given time).
Most would think that a demon of lust would have crafted a place that spoke of want and desire, reds and golds and deep indigo, but-- not Rook. He got enough of that, thank you. This was his place and he wanted none of that here. This was sanctuary. Safe. Home.
The demon has just just made his way back, left a dusting of ash on the front hall carpet, half an hour before Minjun shows up, the text the other sent as a warning still unread on his phone in the bedroom. Rook has a ritual when he comes back, from anywhere really, a really long hot shower that would probably boil a human, followed by his favourite tea wrapped up in a blanket on the couch while he either watched a silly romance show, or reads a book.
He has managed step one when he hears a voice in the apartment.
Padding down the hall with damp hair, an oversized white sweater and track pants, Rook blinks a few times at Minjun before he breaks out into a smile, wide and bright, making his way over to take some of the bags.]
Minnie! What a wonderful surprise. [ Even if you tried to make it not a surprise, honestly, this just made Rook's night so much better.] Do you actually have free time for once?
Minjun takes a moment, just a brief second before he's really noticed, to just enjoy looking at Rook. He's so effortlessly put together that it makes Minjun feel just a bit self-aware. If he isn't going out somewhere knowing full well he's going to be seen, he doesn't put much effort into his own look. An old t-shirt, a pair of jeans that are fading in spots, if he had thrown on a hat no one would have been able to recognize him.
He smiles as Rook comes closer and he lets him take a few bags as a laugh leaves him. ]
A surprise? You haven't been checking your phone again.
[ He makes his way toward the kitchen, setting his own things on the counter. ]
I have the next twenty-four hours all to myself, and I thought that there's nothing more in the world that I'd want than to share them with you. Starting with dinner.
[ When the bags are settled down he finally turns back so that he can reach out and put his arms around Rook's waist and pull him in close. ]
[ Excuse you, Rook would argue that Minjun has no reason to feel self aware at all. Minjun was always the right kind of casual that left something to ache in Rook's chest and warm at the same time. He was always the right kind of put together, an almost fuzzy feeling to his presence that made the demon feel safe despite everything. And the fact that Minjun was so humble about being so gorgeous only helped that, the feeling safe.
Even now, with lust still simmering in his bones and flecks of gold on his skin beneath the sweater, Rook feels like he could curl up and exist with Minjun, no questions asked.
The demon hums lightly as he walks, dipping his head and trying not to sound too bitter when he speaks.]
Ah, was summoned. Didn't really grab my phone before that. Sorry.
[ Minjun knows how much Rook hates being summoned, how much he hates what he is (eternal punishment after all) and what people summon him for whether on earth or in hell. It makes the demon feel hollow and cheap. He usually hides it, with soft smiles or bright laughter, but today it is a little harder. Minjun helps through, takes his mind off it.
Especially with those words. The demon turns with a barely there flush on his face at the admission, smile curling his lips and awe in his eyes.] You are too good to me, Minnie, far too good.
[ And warm. Oh, Rook tenses for the briefest second at the touch before he curls into Minjun as he is pulled close, makes himself a little smaller as he presses close and breathes deep, tension slipping from his shoulders on the exhale. ]
Hmmm, just took a shower. You're warm. Comfy. [ A sigh as Rook curls his arms around his ribs, all but nuzzles against his collarbones, voice quiet. ] Thank you. Know you didn't plan this but I needed it.
[ A low, displeased rumble leaves Minjun at that admission. He knows there's nothing he can do to stop Rook from being summoned, and he knows on top of that that there's nothing he can do about the things he's always asked to do. But it still leaves a sour taste in his mouth to know that Rook is being used in that kind of way. Beautiful Rook, who's the least like any demon he's ever run across before, who would rather curl up under a blanket and watch a movie than do anything that he's commanded to do.
He lifts a hand and gently runs his fingers through still damp hair, ruffling it just a little bit. His other hand runs up and down Rook's back in as soothing a gesture as he can manage and his eyes close, lips finding Rook's temple to place a soft kiss. ]
All the better that I'm here, then. If you aren't hungry, we can just go relax.
[ even though Rook knows that he shouldn't feel a flicker of guilt at the noise Minjun makes, he still does. still feels like he has let Minjun down even if he doesn't actually have control over anything. even if he knows that Minjun doesn't fault him at all for what he is and what he does when he is summoned (when he has little choice in the matter of it all). Rook almost tries to hide in Minjun's arms, the comfort that he finds there reassuring.
almost more relaxing than the shower actually.]
Mmm, no I think I would like to help. Make something with you.
[ wants to be useful in some way that doesn't involve his body in a physical way. wants to create something that someone can enjoy. Rook tips his head into the kiss, eyes closing and a soft noise slipping free. careful there, you might be holding him up completely sooner rather than later and he really does want to help make dinner.]
Dinner then a movie? I was gonna watch that new historical romance one, if you want?
[ another kiss to rook's temple, this one lingering just a little longer, trying to convey just a little more, a message of being there. being present. ready to help hold up the man before the demon, whatever man there is that's left at least. minjun nuzzles his nose into rook's hair for a moment before he lets out a slow breath and finally disengages. he's cold almost immediately without rook's warmth pressed into him and he rubs his arms a little to try to bring some of it back. ]
Alright. I mostly just brought some things from home to throw together a couple of quick things. Comforting eats.
[ as opposed to his usual self-imposed regimen of healthy eats only. he pulls various things out of the bags, rice and kimchi and even some fish, and sets it all out on the counter. ]
Fried fish and kimchi fried rice? There are some pickled cucumbers in there, too, that we can snack on while we cook.
[ the smile that lights up Rook's face at that is star bright and not at all hidden when he turns it to Minjun completely, leaning into the kiss and the touch all the more before the other pulls away. not that Rook really lets him get far, he is so touchy, so tactile and clingy when he is given the chance (when he is given the choice) and easily settles himself in Minjun's orbit as he moves to pull things out of the bag. Rook hovers, nearly pressing against his back and side while humming at what is pulled out.
the demon snorts a little at the way Minjun says its just a couple things to throw together quickly, like it was easy. like it wasn't something that meant the world to Rook.]
You could make me toast and I would consider it a comfort eat, you know.
[ the admission is quiet, but true. he honestly cannot remember the last time someone went out of their way to do something like this for him, the last time someone saw Rook and not the gilded golden wings and pleasure. but -- now was not the time to think on it, Rook nods and nudges his hip against Minjun, eyes bright.]
Whatever you want, Minnie. Just tell me what to do!
